Where is Jasper National Park & How To Get To Jasper National Park
Where Is Jasper National Park?
If you’ve never been to Jasper National Park before, or maybe you’ve only ever heard of the park but haven’t tried to track it down until now, it can be a bit confusing figuring out where it is. But to keep it simple, Jasper National Park is a park located in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada.
The thing about the Canadian Rockies, however, is that they’re huge and cover a large portion of Alberta. If you’ve never been to Canada (or perhaps you live here but have simply gotten used to it) our country is large and spread out, and it can quickly get lost in translation just how big the Rockies and our wilderness is. Plus, many national parks often get confused with Jasper, including Banff National Park. And to top it all off, Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies and spreads across 11,000 square kilometres of land.
So while it’s simple enough to say we’re in the Canadian Rockies, it probably isn’t accurate enough to help you find us.
To be more accurate, Jasper National Park is a stretch of mountains right by the Alberta and British Columbia borders, between the town of Valemount, BC and Hinton, AB. Jasper National Park is just north of Banff National Park, both making up the Canadian Rocky Mountains’ UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the middle of Jasper National Park is the town of Jasper, which sits where Highway 93 and Highway 16 cross together in the Rocky Mountains.
For reference, the town of Jasper is just under a 5-hour drive from Calgary, Alberta, on Highway 93 headed north, about 4 hours from Edmonton on Highway 16, and 3.5 hours from Banff.
While this may seem far from major cities, it is well worth the visit and is one of Canada’s top sights to see. A truly bucket list-worthy place to cross off your list, Jasper National Park is worth the effort to get to it. It also helps that there are so many options and tours to get you to and from the park.
